If you’ve found this post, you are likely preparing to go to PA school! I just want to say CONGRATS on your next step in becoming a Physician Assistant. I know you are just as excited as I am! I am compiling a list of essentials that I am gathering before I start my program. I’m sure that once things get going, I will be able to add to this list and recommend other products.
Laptop
Obviously, a laptop is needed for school these days, especially with the uncertainty of covid. Some classes may be virtual and the online learning systems will be easier to access on a computer. I got a MacBook Pro to replace the computer I used in undergrad (and am still using to write this blog) because of speed and storage. You definitely don’t need a Mac, but I prefer them!
iPad
I am so excited about this one! I am looking forward to taking notes with my iPad because I learn so much better by writing. I’m hoping that I continue to learn that way and this will help my study methods. I also love to draw out diagrams and processes so I think this will be a good addition to my study routine. I will update this post to review how it goes!
Airpods
Wireless headphones are going to be extremely important for studying on the go. If you are in a library or coffee shop, you’ll need headphones to listen to your lectures or review videos. I like airpods because they automatically connect to my computer, phone, or iPad depending on what device I’m using. The noise cancelling effect is also helpful to block out distracting noises.
Bookbag
I think this one goes without saying, but you need to be able to carry all of your stuff! I’ve had the same backpack for a while so I was very happy to get a new one for this next chapter. I got a North Face but any durable brand should be just fine!
Scrubs
Depending on your program, you may be wearing scrubs or you may be wearing business casual. This varies for each program. At my school, students wear scrubs so I will definitely be getting several pairs to wear throughout the week. A lot of people love Figs brand so I am excited to try those but I also really love the Grey’s Anatomy style from Barco. I think they are so soft and comfy. Sketchers by Barco feel like athletic material so those are going to be great for those hot summer days!
Comfy shoes
Lastly, comfortable sneakers are going to be important. Walking to and from class, around the hospital, and in labs can become painful if you don’t have good shoes! I am definitely going to invest in a good, cute pair that I can wear every day.
Hopefully this list is helpful to get you started with shopping for PA school! Like I mentioned, I will add more to this as I get going in school. If you’d like to read my other posts about becoming a physician assistant, I will link them below.
