The Most Effective Moving Tips and Tricks
#1 Clear Storage Bins and Labels
Using clear storage bins is essential because it allows you to see everything in the box. While that seems obvious, you would be surprised how quickly you forget what went where. So, having clear boxes and bins allows you to take out some of the guesswork and easily take bins to the correct rooms! Also, labeling each bin helps with this! You can use a regular DYMO label maker, or use a sticker and write out exactly what is in each box. For example, with the label maker you would type, “office supplies” for the label. If you used a sticker, you could write, “office supplies: hole punch, extra pens, desk lamp, etc” and make it more of an inventory list.
#2 Declutter Every Room As You Pack
It is incredible how many random things you accumulate while living somewhere, even if it is only for one year! Taking the time to declutter every drawer, closet, and cabinet as you pack your things will not only help you clear your mind of clutter, but it will help you transport less items. When it comes to moving hacks, the less stuff you have to move, the better.
#3 Use Household Blankets and Towels to Wrap Fragile Items
This might be one of my favorite moving tricks because it kills two birds with one stone! When moving fragile items, it is super important to make sure they are “insulated” so they don’t get broken during the move. One way to minimize the amount of boxes you have to move is to use household towels and blankets as that insulation. For example, you could use a comforter to wrap your bed frame so it doesn’t get scratched in the truck. Your comforter gets moved easily and your items stay protected.
#4 Leave All Hanging Clothes on Hangers
This is going to save so much time and effort. The best way to do this is to get a clothing rack for your backseat or a mobile clothing rack for your moving truck. It is incredibly tedious to take every clothing item off the hanger, put it in a suitcase, move the hangers, and then undo it all when you get to your new place. Having the clothes stay on the hanger alleviates so much headache and saves time when you get to your new place!
