El Paso, Texas is a military town on the border of Mexico! I had a blast, especially considering I had never been to that part of the country, nor had anyone I know! I hope you take some tips and tricks from this post and check out this beautiful city!
Where to Eat
Ojos Locos
Ojos Locos was not a place I thought I would go, but I ended up going twice on my trip to El Paso! When I landed at the airport, I met some locals who suggested it and so did my uber driver! So, I figured it would be pretty good. Ojos Locos is like the El Paso version of Hooters! The waitresses had beautiful makeup and minimal clothing, which was a pretty interesting experience for my first impression of Texas! (lol) The drinks at Ojos Locos are fantastic and the food is even better. The servers and bartenders made sure I had the best time while I was waiting for the rest of my party to arrive! This would be an awesome place to go watch sports on the weekends because they have TV’s on every single wall with different games on. This restaurant is so much fun, I couldn’t recommend it more!
Toro Burger Bar
Toro Burger Bar is definitely a local favorite! We really tried to go to places that were recommended by the people who live and work in El Paso. This is another great place to watch sports and enjoy a delicious meal. They have over 15 burger choices as well as the option to build your own burger. I also think it is cool that you could trade the meat in the burger for options like elk or buffalo if you like to try more exotic flavors! This is a great option for people with picky eaters, as they offer customizable meals to suit nearly any diet. They have a few locations throughout El Paso and one in Juarez, Mexico which is right across the border. Definitely check this place out!
Where to Drink
Honest Abe’s
Honest Abe’s is the only bar that I remember going to (if that tells you anything) during my trip to El Paso! It is a local spot with tables, booths, and bar seating. It has cute neon signs that say things like “don’t text your ex” which I always love to post on Instagram and Snapchat stories. The decor is based on Abraham Lincoln’s time in life so it looks antique, but is so much fun! They play country music and have great drinks so I definitely recommend this place if that’s the kind of bar you’re into!
What to Do
Scenic Drive Overlook
Scenic Drive Overlook is one of the most beautiful sights in El Paso. The valley of El Paso has lots of homes very close to each other and has a very urban feel. Scenic Drive, on the other hand, has beautiful homes with sprawling lawns that overlook the entire valley, even into Mexico. It was really fun to see the whole vicinity of El Paso and Juarez, Mexico. You could even tell where the border was due to the river and lights! It truly was a beautiful view. We went there as the sun was setting and it was a perfect start to a night out for a nice dinner. Definitely drive here if you visit El Paso.
Plaza Theatre
The Plaza Theatre is a beautiful landmark in El Paso. I visited during the height of COVID-19, so unfortunately the theatre was closed but it looks so beautiful! It was built in the 1930’s with traditional Spanish architecture. I will definitely go to a show at the Plaza Theatre the next time I visit El Paso. They host several types of events including film festivals and concerts. This would be a great place to take in the local culture.
UTV Adventure Tour
This was by far the most fun part of my trip! We rented Razor’s and drove them through the sand dunes of the desert! The options include a 1-seater or a 4-seater so we chose the 1-seaters! It was so much fun getting to drive as fast as we wanted to and had a guided tour. I am really thankful we did the 1-seater option because it allowed us to go into different parts of the desert because our vehicles were smaller. This is relatively pricey but so worth it in my opinion! I loved getting to see the desert and take in all of the views we saw during the ride.
